I should write this review as of March 2014 because this was the very first place I ever went to in St. Louis when I was looking for apartments after landing a new job, so it's a special place for me. I don't remember much about my breakfast there except that it was just enough to keep me going for a while and that I sat at the stools with a very nice server waiting on me. Boy did I feel like I was in a foreign country though, where am I and what am I doing in this city, do you accept cash here or do you print and use your own money lol?! How fortunate that I live just a short drive away now, thanks TJ's!

Nice, quaint little diner in the heart of SoCo. Everything is about what you'd expect from a diner, from the menu offerings to the service. To me, it isn't a place I plan to go, but if I'm out running errands in the morning and need something to eat, it's worth stopping in for a quick bite

Best corned beef hash I've had in Saint Louis! It is fresh and tastes great! You can smell it coming out of the kitchen it's so fresh. Definitely NOT out of a can. I love it. Big strips of fresh corned beef that are tender and great tasting. I think some of the ambiance could be improved, but the food I had was good, and that's what my main concern.

Just when I thought St Louis had no diners I find three on one road?!? Love it!!

I had breakfast with my sister and mom on a Friday morning. I was glad they serve all of the menu all the time. We had chili, grilled ham and cheese, corned beef hash and a philly steak sandwich. We all enjoyed our food and will definitely go back. The staff were all friendly and the prices were really reasonable.

I would like to second what so many others have added in their past reviews: these stars have almost nothing to do with the restaurant business and everything to do with nostalgia I came here to meet with other young adults in our formative years, drowning in endlessly addictive though tasteless coffee. Though I will always carry a certain affinity for the waitstaff, I was always coming here as a default meetup between friends. Recommended only if you know someone who goes here. Otherwise beware: this place can be an infinite timesuck from your life.

Stopped in here while my car was getting serviced at Frank Leta Acura for breakfast to fight off a wicked hangover. Ended up having the steak and eggs and a orange juice. Everything was pretty good. Nice little greasy spoon diner.

Cute setup. Good for what it is, greasy, breakfast food. Definitely good after a long night out.

Thinking about places like Tj's Diner makes me think about how much my stomach's tolerance of greasy foods has changed. I think about things I used to order here, like the fried cauliflower, fries, fried fish, and fried whatever and I know that if I tried to eat these things on anything resembling a regular basis, my body would be incredibly unhappy with me. That, and the pots and pots of coffee. These days, I don't drink coffee past late afternoon. But, back in college, I ended up here fairly often and late at night. I would order something fried and drink a bunch of coffee. I'd go with friends and throw some quarters in the jukebox. It's the kind of place that barely ever changes.

Bottom Line: Wait staff seemed a little shorthanded, food generally decent, dining room has a counter with stools, but still retains its cigarette smoking history on the ceiling. Overview: Visited TJ's Diner on a Sunday around noon. Many seats were taken, tables were left uncleared and uncleaned. This was my first visit to this diner ever. I recall the original Kentucky Fried Chicken that used to occupy this building. It seems like TJ's Diner has been in this space for around 20 years, but I may be off on that estimate. Food: Grits: I don't eat grits, or really even knew what to expect. However, I think I received the bare minimum this time. The choice was "Hot Grits or Oatmeal". I chose grits. And that's what I got. Nothing extra. Oh, a pad of margarine on the side. Joy. I avoid margarine, so that did me no good. I should have asked for banana or something along those lines. Maybe the waitress should have suggested it. Whatever, I learned a hard lesson. Biscuits and Gravy: Decent dish here, however, for me, I need some sausage in my order of the B & G, so I ordered that along side. Glad I did. No sausage really to speak of in the order. (Shouldn't this really come with sausage, usually?) One Pancake: (My Buddy's Order) One bite and she said "eh." The cake was mushy. Enough said. Gross. Hash Browns: (My Buddy's Order) Holy Cats! Crispy on the outside, tender in the middle. Nicely prepared and flavorful. I considered ordering this topped with their chili. Maybe next time. Dining Room: I snapped a photo of the ceiling. Yellow stained. Ventilation registers; black. The years when they allowed smoking have literally left their mark. As I mentioned, there is a counter to sit at and tables. Generally, the place is like three out of five on the cleanliness scale. Maybe four. Side Notes: There were two ladies that seemed to be waiting tables. One, very pleasant, the other, just doing her job and getting through the day. We had the latter waitress. A couple that came in after us complained about the salads they ordered. It looked like they were served the iceberg lettuce "hearts". Good for them for complaining. That was not right to serve that. If you are debating between Eat-Rite on Lindbergh (within a mile of TJ's Diner) and are in the mood for hash browns, avoid Eat-Rite. The cook we had at Eat-Rite made us grilled mashed potatoes, not hash browns. Summary: Next time, I think I may go some place else for breakfast. However, those hash browns were very good, so I might give them a second chance. I just am not overly motivated to return anytime soon.

I really like Tjs Diner. I have met the owners before (very friendly people!) and I love supporting a small business like this. I've been there several times and I have yet to have a bad experience. I tend to cook at home everyday as a housewife so when I do eat out somewhere- I tend to be very picky. I'm also very frugal and you just can't beat their prices for what you're getting. Be friendly to your waitress- it takes you a long way in a small place like this. I highly recommend the double cheeseburger with your favorite toppings, the omelets, grilled cheese and their fries are soooooo tasty!!!!! The fries remind me of a higher quality mcdonalds type fry. Delicious! The only thing I hate about this place is that they aren't open 24 hours. I'd probably eat there 3-5 times a week if they were. Highly Recommended!

oh Tj's...how many pots of your terrible coffee have i consumed? How many stomach aches have you given me? How many Lindbergh High kid's conversations have I eavesdropped on in your fine establishment? This place became a late night staple back in college when we were tired of Denny's and couldn't take any more of the eclectic late night staff of the Steak 'n Shake on Lindbergh. The food is sub par, the coffee is awful, the waitstaff however is totally awesome. I can't say I have been there in years, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.
